The Orcadian Boatman's Song

My great, great, great grandfather wrote a love poem titled "The Orcadian Boatman's Song" whilst he was a minister in the Orkney Islands (Evie). James Stormonth was a lexicographer who also wrote the "Stormonth Etymological and Pronouncing Dictionary of the English Language". I am in the process of locating this work. I plan to name my yet to be named novel by the same title. Ironically, prior to taking an interest in genealogy I listened to an album "The Boatman's Call" by Nick Cave and it resonated deeply with me - to me, it is profoundly wounded. I have since become a Bad Seeds fan and in particular a fan of Warren Ellis (look for his band - The Dirty Three and his solo album 3 pieces for Violin) -this man makes my heart ache and my soul grieve.

Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster

Let's have a little drink break....
MMMM... How about a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster?

  • Take the juice from one bottle of that Ol' Janx Spirit.

  • Pour into it one measure of water from the seas of Santraginus V

  • Allow three cubes of Arcturan Mega-gin to melt into the mixture (it must be properly iced or the benzene is lost).

  • Allow four litres of Fallian marsh gas to bubble through it (in memory of all those happy Hikers who have died of pleasure in the Marshes of Fallia).

  • Over the back of a silver spoon float a measure of Qualactin Hypermint extract, redolent of all the heady odours of the dark Qualactin Zones.

  • Drop in the tooth of an Algolian Suntiger. Watch it dissolve, spreading the fires of the Algolian suns deep into the heart of the drink.

  • Sprinkle Zamphour.

  • Add an olive.
    Drink...but very carefully.

Change

Heraclitus said "You could not step twice into the same river; for other waters are ever flowing on to you."

Sometimes translated as (among other things)
No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man.

So, an opportunity missed is an opportunity lost forever... ? Discuss

A or B?

Are the squares A and B the same colour?

First of Firsts

Mistress of the Cave here,

Let us worship at the alter of thought to celebrate this momentous occasion...

Here's a little brain teaser to get you started:

This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious as to just how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so ordinary and plain that you would think nothing was wrong with it. In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is highly unusual though. Study it and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out. Try to do so without any coaching!
